Breaking News: Human Rights Abuses Escalate in Oromia, Ethiopia By Finfinnee News Network – June 10, 2025 Ethiopia's ruling Prosperity Party (PP) forces have been accused of human rights abuses, including the killing of civilians and looting of livestock in the West Wallagga Zone, Oromia, according to reports from Oromia National Media – Arrata Biyyoolessa Oromiyaa (ONM-ABO) on June 8, 2025. Allegedly, on June 6, PP militia executed a 74-year-old man, Obbo Abraahim Imaanaa, in his home in Warra Jirruu village, Gullisoo District. The elderly man, accused of allying with the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), was known as a respected community member with no political affiliation. ONM-ABO labeled the incident a "cold-blooded killing" and criticized the lack of due process. In a separate episode on June 4, PP forces reportedly stole livestock from local farmers in Igguu Bochii village, Qilxuu Kaarraa District. ONM-ABO described this as an ongoing campaign of violence, looting, and intimidation against Oromo communities suspected of sympathizing with the OLA. In another report from ONM-ABO on June 7, a young Oromo man, Abdullaahii Muusaa, detained for two months, was allegedly executed by PP forces in Baabboo Gambeel District, West Wallagga Zone, on June 3. The report claimed that Abdullaahii had no criminal record and was detained solely for his Oromo identity. The ONM-ABO has labeled these actions as war crimes under international law and accuses Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's government of enabling these abuses. Fear is reportedly growing across rural West Wallagga, where federal and regional forces are frequently deployed under the guise of counter-insurgency. The lack of accountability and transparency has raised international observers' concerns. As of this report, neither the Prosperity Party nor the local authorities have issued a statement regarding these allegations. The Oromo communities, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders are calling for independent investigations into these alleged human rights violations but are hindered by restricted access to conflict-affected areas.
