BREAKING NEWS: ALLEGED HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN OROMIA FNN reports that on June 10th, 2025, multiple incidents of violence allegedly involving the Prosperity Party (PP) forces and the Ethiopian Imperial Army were reported in the East and South West regions of Oromia, according to local sources. In the Eastern Shawa zone, local sources reported that a 19-year-old youth, Melka Melki, was fatally shot by PP forces in the early hours of June 9th in Shubi Gamo village, Dugda district. The PP forces, under the pretext of enforcing law and order, have purportedly been carrying out extrajudicial killings in the region. Reports suggest that these forces are also involved in looting, mass arrests of families of activists and patriots, and committing various violations. In another incident on June 9th, the Ethiopian Imperial Army allegedly executed six followers of the Waqefata faith in South West Shawa. This mass killing reportedly took place in the Malka Fincha center of the Sudua Datshi district. The victims, who were members of a local committee and believers of the faith, were named as Dagaga Jida Bati, Lamisa Maru, Handisa Nanisa, Kuma Nagu Jambo, Bashada Adi, and Gormisa Choma Honda. They were allegedly shot while cleaning their religious attire and materials by the river. In the same region, local sources reported that a young man, Buja Boki, was killed in his own home by the Ethiopian Imperial Army. Buja was reportedly a respected figure in his community and represented hope to his family. The recurring incidents of violence against civilians in Oromia raise serious concerns about the future of the Oromo people. The forces, under the guise of legal enforcement, reportedly continue to perpetrate acts that lack a legitimate legal basis. Reporting for FNN, June 10th, 2025.
