The Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) claims a series of significant victories against the Prosperity Party (PP) forces in the Oromia region on October 24, 2025, as reported by our local sources. The confrontations have fuelled political tension and raised alarming human rights concerns in the region.
OLA Claims Victory in Qellem Wallagga
Local sources reported that the OLA launched successful offensives against the PP forces in the Anfilloo zone of Qellem Wallaggaa, located in the western part of Oromia. This victorious struggle, which took place in the villages of Yaarer and Kollii, resulted in substantial losses for the PP forces. According to the OLA, the PP forces suffered extensive casualties with 126 soldiers reported dead and 45 captured. The OLA also claimed to have captured 12 combatants and a significant cache of military equipment, which were transported to the city of Ashii. Further, an additional skirmish in the city of Muggii reportedly resulted in 20 more PP soldiers being killed and 12 being captured.
OLA Thwarts Major PP Offensive
On the same day, the OLA also reported successfully disabling three PP military tanks and a large military truck. A significant development occurred when the OLA claimed to have successfully repelled a major PP offensive aimed at the city of Dambii Dolloo. The PP forces had reportedly amassed a large force near the city of Seertumii, but their advance was thwarted by the OLA.
Rising Human Rights Concerns
Amid the ongoing conflict, allegations of human rights abuses by the PP forces continue to surface. The PP government has been accused of suppressing the Oromo people's right to freedom of speech and conducting a smear campaign against the OLA. Disturbingly, it is alleged that Prime Minister of the PP, Colonel Abiy Ahmed, is instigating conflict in Oromia and planning to deploy a large military force in border areas.
OLA's Commitment to Liberation
General Dirribaa Mokonnon of PP had claimed a year ago that the government has weaked the OLF and his forces would eliminate the OLA within 2 to 3 months but the OLA has recently intensified its attacks against PP forces and claimed victories against the PP forces. The OLA emphasized its commitment to liberating the Oromo people and expressed confidence in achieving their goal. They further stated that for the past two to three years, the OLA has been successfully pushing back the PP forces from several regions in Oromia, including from around the capital city, Finfinnee. The OLA is celebrating these victories as a significant step forward in their struggle for the liberation of the Oromo people. However, as the conflict continues, concerns over human rights abuses and the escalating violence remain prevalent.
The events of October 24, 2025, in Oromia have highlighted the complex and often volatile political and human rights situation in the region. As the tension between the OLA and PP forces continues to escalate, the need for an unbiased, comprehensive, and factual representation of events becomes even more crucial. We at FNN remain committed to our role in this process, ensuring that the voices of Oromia are heard and the truth is brought to light.
