The Oromo Support Group (OSG) has documented alleged human rights abuses affecting Oromos during the administrations of both the former Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and the current Prosperity Party government led by Abiy Ahmed. Over more than three decades, OSG has published 73 reports documenting killings, arbitrary detentions, displacement, and other alleged abuses. According to its 73rd report, OSG recorded more than 7,700 Oromo civilian deaths during the eight years since the Prosperity Party came to power. The organization states that its documentation is based on individually verified cases and often includes the identities and photographs of victims. OSG further notes that the documented cases likely represent only a fraction of the total number of incidents, estimating that many abuses occurring in remote rural areas go unreported or cannot be independently verified.

In addition to documenting abuses within Ethiopia, OSG has also reported on the situation of Oromo refugees abroad, including cases in which Oromo asylum seekers and refugees in Egypt allegedly faced refoulement or forced return to Ethiopia in violation of international refugee protection principles.
