As a hopeful brutal dictator Abiy Ahmed sets Ethiopia ablaze, the UK Prime Minister Liz Truss resigns within 44 days

Abiy Ahmed came to power riding on the Oromo youth struggle that shook the EPRDF to its core four years ago. Early on, Abiy Ahmed promised the Oromo youth that he was one of their own and that he would make sure to deliver their demands for justice, democracy, and self-rule.
He started by inviting home outlawed political parties, including the Oromo Liberation Front, and releasing political prisoners. He promised during his tenure that his government won't imprison anyone without confirming crimes and said that killing is an indicator of defeat. That mantra went out through the window when he was settled, and the noble committee bestowed on him a Noble Peace Prize. He authored a manifesto and called it "Madamar"- roughly translated as an addition. He aspired to restore the Abyssinian imperial system; in his renovated palace, he erected statues for the Abyssinian emperors such as Menelik II, Haile Selassie, and Mengistu Hailemariam.
He soon said that if he put his feet in Wallaga, they would kill him and that he would divide Oromia so that Oromos won't come together for the next 100 years unless they accepted his rule. He put Oromia under the rule of the military command post and brought back the EPRDF brutality with even more savagery. People were set ablaze alive just based on their national identity. Oromo youth were categorized as "Shane" and murdered en mass all over Oromia. Those who joined his team approved of his brutality and justified it as necessary for their government to continue while the whole empire was engulfed with war and famine.

Abiy Ahmed sacked his allies, including Oromia's Ex-President Lema Magarsa, that challenged his dominance. He renamed EPRDF as Prosperity Party, but the Ethiopian empire went down in flames, and over 20 million people were hit by starvation due to a famine compounded by misguided war.
Abiy Ahmed expanded his military campaign outside Oromia and added the Tigray region to the list in November 2020. The TPLF, the regional party in Tigray that was a leader of the EPRDF coalition, went to the poll at the regular time and renewed their mandate in their region despite Abiy's newly minted Prosperity Party's and its electoral commission's objection to the poll citing COVID-19 risk and that the electoral commission did not approve it. During the same time, many countries, including the US, South Korea, and the UK, went to the poll according to existing schedules despite the raging COVID-19 pandemic.
Abiy Ahmed held an election in 2021 in which he was the sole candidate after postponing the poll for over a year and putting leaders and members of contending political parties, such as those of the Oromo Liberation Front, in jail.
He intensified his war in Oromia and Tigray and he soon added Eritrea as an ally in his war against the Oromo Liberation Army and the Tigray Defense Force. When he could not resist the liberation fronts, he resorted to using drones purchased from Arab countries such as Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. He successfully thwarted the advancement of the liberation fronts toward the capital in 2021 and honed his brutality against the Oromos and Tigrayans. His government massacred youth in Neqamte Wallaga, Ambo, and other places in Oromia's Shawa and Wallo zones. His government massacred Karayyu Aba Gadas at the end of 2021, and his savagery continued in Oromia. His forces committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Tigray as well.
The global community soon rejected Abiy's government, and the US government proposed a sanction. Ethiopia was ejected from African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) eligible countries -a US trade act that gives sub-Saharan African countries duty-free access to the American market.

In this piece, we wanted to compare Abiy Ahmed, a brutal savage setting Ethiopia ablaze, to Liz Truss, UK's Prime Minister, who resigned just today after 44 days in office. There is now an alarm bell ringing for an impending genocide in Tigray, but genocide is already ongoing in Oromia by Prosperity Party and its allies against the Oromo people. Yet, Abiy Ahmed is willing to eradicate millions of people to protect his brutal government, unlike the rest of the world, where leaders immediately resign if they cannot deliver on promises.
