BREAKING: Military Clashes and Civilian Casualties Reported in Oromia

FNN- Local sources report escalating tensions in the Oromia region. On June 10, 2025, in the Qellem Wallagga zone, Gaawoo Qeebbee district, Arroojjii Gaara Korbeessa village, a confrontation erupted between the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and forces loyal to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The engagement resulted in OLA's  capture of two military-grade AKM rifles. In a separate incident in the East Shaggar, Dugda district, our sources reported the tragic killing of a young man named Butaa Boruu on June 9, 2025. The slain youth, reportedly unarmed, was targeted due to suspected affiliations with the OLA. Simultaneously, residents in the Shuubii Gamoo village in the Dugda district were subjected to an extensive military search operation on June 6, 2025. The local population is living in a state of fear due to the extensive search operations and arbitrary detentions by the military. According to our sources, innocent civilians including elderly individuals and children are being held in undisclosed locations. Some of those detained include 60-year-old Fayizoo Jaatanii, Roobaa Butaa, Gadaa Burqaa, Beenyaa Nabii, Raadee Fungee, the mother of eight children, and 65-year-old Qacinii Dagaagaa, Duumessaa Hee'ii, Shantamoo Idoo, Simalee Raagoo, and Jimmaa Simalee among others. The situation has deteriorated to the point where Oromo civilians, including women and children, are reportedly being threatened with violence and intimidation by armed forces. The military's actions are causing widespread fear and distress among the population, disrupting their daily lives and livelihoods. FNN will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as more information becomes available. We stand in solidarity with all those who are suffering and call for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
